TAV Holding: Holdings and Sustainable Development

Engineer Mohammad Rostampour, Managing Director of Tav Holding, made a speech at the 4th International Holdings Conference as a Special guest. He pointed to the role of holdings in Sustainable Development and stated that sustainable development is one of the most comprehensive concepts and of the most important issues raised in the world. Sustainable development was endorsed by all countries in the Rio Conference in 1992, and the definition that can be provided is that sustainable development will provide basic and current needs and will work to improve life. In addition, with regard to the present and future, and the preservation of the environment and the ecosystem, it implements a management to help us reach this aim. In fact, sustainable development is an organizing member coming to help us organize our non-renewable resources and the sources that are declining. It teaches us how to use the non-renewable resources so that we can create a solution for the present and future generations and avoid making mistakes.

Sustainable development is a very comprehensive issue and here we are focusing on sustainable urban development. We all know that villages are dying, and the number of villages is decreasing and the number of cities is increasing every day. In 1900, from every 8 people, one person lived in the city; while estimates suggest that by the year 2030 about 90% of the population will be living in cities. Therefore, we will face many problems. Humans migrate to cities to have a better job opportunity and a better life. That makes more densely populated streets and more polluted air and groundwater, and many other problems. In fact, sustainable development tells us what to do to prevent this.

Now, what should we do? The solution is in sustainable urban development.

We need to observe a few points to achieve sustainable urban development.

First, we need to reconsider priorities in transport property functions and transportation. In our country, the priority for transportation is car. We should try to prioritize walking, cycling and public transportation. Second, we need to be able to restore the environments that have been damaged, such as lagoons, the mountain ranges, etc. Third, build proper places for housing. A decent housing is a place where everyone can rest and live in complete comfort. Fourth is the environmental culture of the people. That is, everyone should learn to love nature. Unfortunately, none of these observed now.

Our goal in sustainable architecture is to be able to reach sustainable urban development and rapid productivity.
